In recent weeks, fraudulent e-mails claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) have been circulating. These emails claim that the receiver’s federal tax payment has been rejected and provides a link for a website where the receiver can go for more information.

The IRS does not use e-mail as a source of communication. If you receive any emails claiming to be from the IRS or EFTPS, do not click on any links or provide the sender with any information.

Report the phishing attempt to the IRS by forwarding the email to phishing@irs.gov.

For more information please, visit www.irs.gov and click on the Report Phishing link on the right hand side of the page.
